On March 15, 2023, Bricklayer officially came to life. Back then, if you’d taken a snapshot of the tech world, you would have seen Generative AI making headlines everywhere—ChatGPT had just burst onto the scene, large language models were the talk of every boardroom, and people were beginning to wonder if we were witnessing the dawn of a new tech revolution.

But many were still wary. “It’s just statistics,” people said, “just picking the next word.” And I have to admit, I was a little skeptical too—could these AI models really tackle the messy, high-stakes challenges found in enterprise cybersecurity?

A Leap of Faith in AI

When we first started experimenting with GenAI, it was an intriguing concept, but we needed more than just a few successful experiments fueled by curiosity. We needed proof that it could work in the real world. So we fed cybersecurity-specific data to a large language model to see if it could reason about threats, vulnerabilities, and real-time alerts.

To our surprise, it did far more than just predict “the next word.” It interpreted the data in a nuanced way—correlating signals, identifying anomalies, and forming rudimentary insights. That was my lightbulb moment. I remember thinking, If it can do all of this now, imagine what it’ll be capable of in a year—or two. We jumped in with both feet, and Bricklayer AI was born.

Sprinting Ahead in a Rapidly Evolving Industry

In those early days, we were one of only a handful of teams exploring how Generative AI might transform Security Operations. Today—just two years later—a veritable avalanche of companies have joined in. The pace has been dizzying, validating our initial bet that enterprise security was ready for an AI-powered leap forward.

Reflecting on What Matters Most

On our two-year anniversary, I’ve been thinking a lot about what truly powers Bricklayer. If you’ve heard me speak, you know I often say “data is the fuel for decision-making.” But there’s a catch: data on its own isn’t enough.

  • Raw data can mislead. If you don’t contextualize it, you risk false positives, alert fatigue, and incomplete threat assessments.
  • Context is what turns data into insights. The difference between a random IP address and a malicious command-and-control server is the context behind it.
  • Intelligence is the fusion of data and context. Only when you can reason across all that information and draw actionable conclusions does data truly become valuable.

We live in an era where cybersecurity data is growing exponentially—and so are the threats. Hackers are always innovating, always adapting. So the question isn’t if we should harness AI, but rather how to use AI responsibly and effectively.

The Bricklayer Approach

From the start, we knew that focusing on data alone would never be enough; we needed a system that could make intelligent decisions. That’s why we built Bricklayer around AI Agents:

  1. Each agent is designed to assimilate and understand a particular piece of the security puzzle.
  2. These agents collaborate with one another—trading information and insights—like a well-orchestrated security team.
  3. They surface the most relevant context across your organization and external data sources, all in real-time.
  4. Finally, they recommend or execute actions that help mitigate threats before they escalate.

In doing so, we’ve moved far beyond the idea of a single AI tool spitting out best guesses. We’ve created a multi-agent system that constantly learns, shares knowledge among its agents, and collectively tackles the ever-growing complexity of modern cyber threats.

Looking Back—and Ahead

It’s wild to think we started this journey only two years ago, armed with a prototype that showed the glimmers of what was possible. Today, Bricklayer is a fully fledged product with a blossoming community of  customers— organizations that trust us to help them perform their security operations at scale, day in and day out.

To our R&D team, who worked tirelessly to turn vision into reality: thank you. To our early adopters, who saw the potential in our technology before the world caught on: we’re grateful for your partnership and belief. And to our customers, who are now part of our success story: your insights and feedback have shaped Bricklayer into what it is today.

As we celebrate this milestone, we’re not resting on our laurels. The velocity of AI hasn’t slowed down—it’s accelerating. And we’re committed to pushing the boundaries of what AI can do in cybersecurity, ensuring that our customers stay a step ahead of the threats that evolve daily.

Here’s to the next two years—and beyond. We can’t wait to show you where we’re headed.
